This project is an installation within a private residence in Amsterdam, where the Chaleur sauna by Alpha Wellness Sensations has been adapted to the wellness area of the home, which also hosts a hammam. This sauna is one of the varieties of Finnish saunas manufactured by Alpha Wellness Sensations, and it can be acquired as a standardized model, or it can be made custom for specific requirements or existing buildings with limited space, such as this one.
The room where the sauna was installed has clean, modern finishes. Its parting white walls, ceiling, and floor are interrupted by the black frames of doors and windows, one of them covering an entire wall that faces the backyard, fenced by a wall of wood cladding that matches the aesthetic of the sauna intervention.
The outside of the sauna resembles a traditional Finnish sauna, clad in ayous wood with a honey-varnish finish. The frontal and side glass windows, made with safety tempered glass, connect the room to the lobby it shares with the hammam entry. Inside, the 12 kW oven is placed in front of the wooden benches, displayed in front of the window. The bottom wall is clad in the standard light ayous wood that also covers the benches and the ceiling, but the back wall of the sauna is made of customized wood cladding, in a 3D, wave-like pattern.
The sauna installation is a custom Chaleur 3D sauna, with LED lighting to highlight the 3D wall and ceiling spotlights, as well as a loudspeaker set. The 3D custom walls by Alpha Wellness Sensations are available in ayous, cedar, and hemlock.
