Custom external Venetian blinds from Shade Factor were used for solar control in premium office spaces in Sydney. Sixty Martin Place is a new high-rise near Sydney Harbour. The complex design of the facade had to balance thermal performance while maximizing daylight and maintaining the views of the city. Shade Factor was approached by Hassell Architects to provide a solution that could reflect a high percentage of incident solar radiation whilst limiting the overall facade reflectivity.
Shading Solution
The specialized mill slat Venetian blind from Solar Factor was selected, as it returns a high percentage of the UV and infrared components of the solar spectrum to the exterior and redirects daylight to the workspaces.
The interior slat surface is perforated with a matte, non-reflective finish to provide views even in the closed position. The 2800 blinds over 31 levels are driven by a WAREMA KNX control system with full sun tracking and shadow modeling capability integrated with the BMS for administrative functions and accessibility via the tenant portal. Shade Factor's blinds and controls are a major contributor to the energy efficiency of this project.
