A luxury villa situated on a Spanish beachfront used the Flexbrick ceramic system to achieve the conceptual design that reinterpreted the traditional Mediterranean latticework found on many houses in the area with modern technology. The actual latticework also covered a larger area than most traditional houses. The intention of the latticework was to act as a sunscreen and act as a privacy element. Needing to find a system that could span the larger spaces while maintaining stability proved to be the challenge. Flexbrick's degree of adaptation, high degree of complexity, and minimalist look made them an easy choice for the architect, Francisco Andres Pomares.
The smaller volumes, controlled transparency, and openings allow for a more human-scale experience, while also relating to the classical style of canonical modern architecture. The ceramic material creates a textural difference from the concrete wall structure while creating a more comfortable climate of the inside and outside spaces while framing the view of the sea.
