Thanks to its heat treatment process, Thermowood allows durability and resistance to cold weather, however, maintenance is required to ensure it keeps its features over the years. Here are some recommendations by Tantimber to keep decks as good as they were when they were first installed.
1. Treat it Every Two Years
Thermowood natural colors may fade if they are not treated properly. When using Thermowood for purposes like decking, Tantimber® does recommend occasional upkeep to prevent the wood to splinter or cracking. A surface oil treatment every two years or so is suggested.
2. Clean Your Deck Regularly
Brush off leaves and other residues from the surface of the timber, then rinse with water if necessary. If possible, don't use pressure washers or chemicals because they can damage the natural grains of the wood.
3. Use an Oil Treatment
There are two ways to oil your timber, one includes adding a tinted oil which will keep the wood brown. The other allows for the Thermowood to grey naturally over time with age. It's recommended to apply a clear variety of oil.
