The interiors of Michelin-starred Restaurant Äng are designed to be sustainable; they feature Kvadrat rugs and upholstery and a Kvadrat Acoustics solution within what appears as a modern interpretation of a glasshouse, emerging from picturesque rural surroundings like a prism.
The sensual interior unites different tactile natural materials and tones to create balance against the pastoral landscape outside. It explores the concept of changing scenes – within haute cuisine as well as design – and focuses on the fusion and similarities between Scandinavian and Japanese expressions.
Kvadrat Fabrics
For the restaurant project, in collaboration with Karimoku Case Study, Norm Architects and Keiji Ashizawa Design created bespoke sofas, armchairs, and dining chairs upholstered with 'Moss'. These seating elements act in harmony with the richly textured Lavo carpets to deliver a comfortable, serene experience for guests.
Acoustic Wall Solution
A Kvadrat Acoustic solution seamlessly integrated into a wall adds a further sensory dimension. Created by using Soft Cells panels, it works to counteract reverberation from the many large glass surfaces, minimising noises and making conversations effortlessly clear.
Kvadrat products contributed to the success of the project since their wide range of fabric options could be specified on the furniture and the Kvadrat Acoustics solution and rugs optimise the acoustics of the space whilst still being naturally integrated elements of the design that have their own tactile qualities.
