More about this product

The Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre is currently under construction in Mount Gambier, South Australia. In addition to six multi-purpose courts for various ball sports, the new building will also include a flexible event room and an indoor aquatic area with multiple swimming pools. The building will also include offices, a day-care centre, and a cafeteria.

The roof of the integrated swimming hall is executed as a wooden structure with glulam components measuring up to 42 m, which will be the longest single glulam beams ever used in Australia. The transport of the extraordinarily long glulam components presented a logistical challenge. The originally planned concept of bonding the components on site with the patented HESS LIMITLESS solution had to be revised at short notice due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. The unique transport of the extra-long components required not only just-in-time delivery to the port in Zeebrugge, Belgium, but also the seamless coordination of two production sites where the beams were manufactured. In the port of Zeebrugge, the glulam components were reloaded after delivery by truck onto multi-purpose boogies (MPBs) to be subsequently loaded into the hull of the ship and stowed as break bulk cargo.

The contract included project management as well as structural engineering, shop drawings and logistical planning and was handled by the experienced staff at HESS TIMBER GmbH, a member of the HASSLACHER group.
