New private residence in Melbourne, Australia uses Fisher & Paykel products in its modern kitchen. Completed by Whiting Architects, the project brief included needing to preserve the history of the existing Edwardian home, that was built in 1915, while creating a contemporary space for the new owners.
The family of the home were set on keeping the detailing of the existing property, while wanting the functionality of modern living. The kitchen was an important element in the new design layout, acting as the core that the rest of the house revolved around. The family needed a kitchen that was built to last, due to their family size, and amount of time they would spend in the kitchen. For this reason, especially high-quality, durable materials and finishes were chosen for the design.
Fisher & Paykel appliances were well suited to the brief, and offered design opportunities to create a space the family of six could all be in and use together. The spaciously designed and intuitive appliances also helped minimize the workload when using the kitchen, allowing them to enjoy the space more socially. 'The Social Kitchen' is a concept Fisher & Paykel are passionate about. It comes into its own when multiple people move into the kitchen, for example, at parties, rather than simply observing, the guest will pick up the wooden spoon and giving the pot a stir. The meal becomes a team effort.

By incorporating Fisher & Paykel’s premium appliances into this space, the architects were able to create the desired modern space while still tying it into the original style of the home. Products like the freestanding cooker respect the history of the house while providing the practical volume needed for cooking for a large family.
