A new prominent building has been added to Mexico City's Skyline. Chapultepec UNO R509 is a new mixed-use development, situated along the Paseo de la Reforma boulevard. SentryGlas® high-performance laminated glazing from Kuraray was used for the advanced interlayer technology, helping the architects achieve both functional, safety requirements and an experience that maximized visibility for the visitors, workers, and residents.
Design Concept
Chapultepec UNO R509 sits in a prominent location, which is near the center of the boulevard. This location inspired the concept of offering building occupants panoramic views on every level. The only way to achieve this design concept was to make use of laminated glass. Kuraray's SentryGlas® ionoplast interlayers from Trosifol were used for this.
The structural design, which initially had an exposed self-supporting structure that sat on the outside of the building, eventually evolved into the facade that was comprised mainly of glass, where structural elements were minimalized. To achieve this, the structural integrity of the glazing becomes a key piece of the puzzle.
SentryGlas® characteristics
The benefits offered by SentryGlas® included its significantly improved stiffness, and high post-breakage strength when compared to its competitors. It is these characteristics that allowed to structure to be designed as minimal as it is.
