Breather and AVCL Systems - Fire Performance
The Breather and AVCL membrane systems are developed by Effisus as facade liners which help to control and prevent fire propagation on the exterior and interior areas. Breather and AVCL membranes are available in vertical and horizontal connection types, allowing for application to versatile designs.
To ensure optimal performance, tapes, adhesives, and sealants should be tested and certified as part of the membrane system. The Breather and AVCL membranes can be specified as non-combustible or limited combustible with minimum Class A2-s1, d0 on BS EN13501-1.

Effisus Fire Guidance
Based on industry experience, Effisus has noted a time-consuming and ineffective process in detailing and designing fire-proofing membranes, which often leads to delays and construction errors. To remedy this, Effisus has launched a Fire Guidance to help design membranes and their according accessories. Thus, the Fire Guidance assists in areas such as façade perforations, compatibilities with different substrates, and non-common details.
The AVCL and Breather membranes are primary examples of this process. With the Fire Guidance, Effisus considers two key points:
- The membrane accessory (tape, sealant, adhesive, etc) needs to be compatible and have good adhesion with the porous surface (concrete or similar)
- There are differential movements that need to be considered when designing the correct membrane accessory, thus a membrane accessory that provides elongation is ideal
