In 2016, the Edge opened as a modern office building in the heart of Amsterdam's business district, which accommodates Delloite's primary headquarters in the city. Designed by the PLP Architecture group, the structure uses innovative sustainable technologies to create comfortable workspaces, earning it the world's highest BREEAM rating awarded to an office building. To match this level of technological design excellence, the architects chose Axolight's Bell pendant lamps to illuminate the interior spaces.
Design Concept
One of the primary goals for the PLP Architecture group was to create a uniquely adaptable building with enjoyable office spaces to promote a healthy work environment. Thus, the Edge uses a large system of photovoltaic panels and 70% less electricity than similar office buildings in the Netherlands. In various communal areas, the large ceiling spaces are complemented with Axolight's Bell pendant lights, which help to effectively illuminate the vast space after nightfall.
Axolight Bell Pendant Lamps
The Bell pendant lamps are visible behind the striking glass facade of the Edge office building. Designed by Manuel and Vanessa Vivian, the luminaire is a twist on the classic dome shape and combines sound-absorbing acoustic technology with excellent lighting performance, making it the ideal fixture for the Edge.
The Bell pendant lamps in the color white are dispersed throughout the high ceiling spaces to provide diffused light for occupants working at night. With its recognizable shape, light tones, and warm lighting, the Bell pendant's scenic impact on the Edge building works even when the lights are off.
