In 2016, a historic German boiler house from 1942 was renovated into a modern office building. The project was led by the group Ihre Architekten, with an emphasis on optimizing interior space to create comfortable working areas and provide ample lighting. To achieve this goal, the architects worked in collaboration with Dutch window company VELUX to transform the previously enclosed leather goods company building into an open contemporary space with extensive natural light.
Design Concept
In order to renovate the space while maintaining certain elements of the original structure, the industrial building's roof was preserved and furnished with the Ridglight Modular Skylight from VELUX. Throughout the hall, 32 Ridgelight glazing panels open the space to generous amounts of daylight. With remote controls which allow users to change the blind and ventilation systems, Ridgelight provides a truly modernized space.
