Joia on Main’s massive outdoor patio overlooks Riverwalk Commons, a host to various Newmarket events all year long. The spacious patio has become a summer hotspot where patrons can cool down while indulging in Italian cuisine and an extensive wine list.
As part of the project in the early phases, ShadeFX traveled to the highly anticipated restaurant to provide a site assessment. Through measurements and consultation, ShadeFX customized three large, connected structures complete with retractable roofs for sun and rain protection.
The three, sleek and modern structures are painted black, complementing the exterior design. Mounted above the rafters are three 20’ x 18’ motorized retractable roofs in a Serge Ferrari Concrete fabric. Gutters line the outside edges and in between the structures for proper rain management. The waterproof fabric is also fire retardant allowing Joia to mount heaters on the structure as part of phase two.
When the weather is just right, the roofs can retract to expose a clear blue sky during a lunch rush or show off a starlit atmosphere for a romantic evening.
