Located in Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden, the Segerstedthuset building is a contemporary addition to this historic university. Designed to unify staff, faculty, students, and visitors that had previously been spread over 9 distinct buildings, the Segerstedthuset building is a hub for over 600 employees.
Designed by 3XN architects, this modern workplace brings researchers, administration staff, and management teams under the same roof. The central atrium is a focal point for the building, providing a generous space for meeting and gathering.
As with all workplaces and educational buildings, acoustic performance is critical to the well-functioning and comfort of the space. The atrium is fitted with 1100m² grooved acoustic panels from Gustafs and is finished in their RP8 stripe perforation. This acoustic lining allows the space to function comfortably as the heart of the building with the large sculptural stair providing vertical circulation and the atrium ground floor, a beautiful day-lit gathering space.
The RP8 stripe perforation on the acoustic panels provides a linear look and excellent acoustics. Gustafs grooved acoustic wood panels with stripe perforation show less open area compared to the traditional hole or slot perforations while still providing comparable acoustic absorptions.
