The eye care center at Stockholm’s St. Erik Eye Hospital provides a holistic perspective on eye care based on research and educational programs. The design of the hospital is characterized by durable natural materials including white-pigmented oak and terrazzo.
The use of natural wood in interior design creates a harmonious, safe feeling which is ideal for the design of hospital environments such as St. Erik’s. Furthermore, Wood has been proven to promote health, helping with convalescence, and stress reduction.
Gustafs made the wood elements for the hospital interiors. Public environments are clad with wood panels and acoustic panels in white pigmented oak. Gustafs timber panels have also been innovatively combined with the wood panels.
On the ground-floor level are Gustafs acoustic panels with PD8 perforation to absorb the sound in places with smaller areas. On top of contributing to the health and wellbeing in the hospital environment, the acoustic panels also augment the safety factor with a high fire protection Reaction to Fire A2-s1, d0.
