The Centre for Sciences houses specialist labs, student-led research spaces, prep rooms, staff facilities and an auditorium. There is a central collaborative space on each of the three floors that has been dubbed 'The Atoll'. This is a core element of the building, encircled by teaching and learning spaces. The dramatic atrium at its centre brings natural light into the interior and provides visual connection between floors which promotes innate wayfinding. The atrium uses Sculptform's custom profile Click-on Battens to span between floors and create an incredible feature.
White Oak battens curve between ceilings and balustrades, drawing the eye up and creating a sense of movement through the entire atrium. The project, designed by Cox Architecture Melbourne was shortlisted for the World Architecture Awards in 2017.
