London is the largest urban zone in the European Union with a cosmopolitan population of over 7.7 million residence. The London Games is being eagerly anticipated by millions of sporting fans around the world. The Games, which officially kicks off on the 27th July 2012 will see the arrival of world’s top athletes and their team officials representing various participating nations, international dignitaries, the Games officials and not to mention millions of supporters and fans.

Zoo Veterinary Hospital / Carreño Sartori Arquitectos In the Veterinary Hospital, a single building on a restricted site, must collect the programmatic complexity. At street level the veterinary requirements and animal recovery rooms are designed with easy vehicle and stretchers access. Santa Ana’s Chapel / e|348 arquitectura Visiting the site, we noticed that the given location of the Chapel was in the intersection of five streets/roads, and at the bottom corner of an ascending topography. CHANGING ROOM, by Easton + Combs, is a mirage of the intimate in the realm of the public. As the daydream is to daily life, a momentary slippage that can re-qualify the onslaught of a quotidian continuum, so too is the CHANGING ROOM to the urban field.

On April 1st and 2nd, designers, physicians, scientists, scholars and artists will come together to explore these questions.

We’ve told you before about the POST2000TALKS, a cycle of conferences architecture related that started in Lisbon during fall 2010, parallel to the major event ‘Triennal of Architecture of Lisbon’. A new lecture is coming up: ‘Open Format’ presented by Isabelle Bentz, Partner of Hosoya Schaefer Architects.

With regard to its immanent powers, architecture today seems to be both under-challenged and over-charged at the same time. This biomorphic paradigm has reduced architecture’s potential to just dealing with issues concerning geometry, form-making, and manufacturing, whilst depriving it of any political impact. On the other hand, there is a programmatic notion of practice which reduces architecture to a predominantly political project, ignoring the fact that a building must eventually embody its contents through its tectonic and formal definition.

In view of the earthquake in Japan, dEEP wants to share their early design proposal called ‘DE_PLO’. It’s a research based design proposal by Li Daode from dEEP Architects, cooperated with architects Ana Cocho Bermejo and Andrea Balducci Caste. Pacific Design Center is pleased to present MonoVisioN, a selection of photographs from design and architectural photographer Scott Frances. The exhibition, on view from March 22nd to April 29th, is located among the Design Loves Art Galleries on the Second Floor of the Blue Building at the Pacific Design Center in Blue Space 231.

Geothermal Pump Stations / PK Arkitektar In 1990 Reykjavík Geothermal Heating Authority launched an open competition for a housing design for the hot water wells. PK Arkitektrar’s provided the winning design out of over 80 entries. This is the first of these buildings with others scheduled accordingly. These structures will stand as a symbol of the city of Reykjavík’s commitment to the utilization of the natural resources (read more…)
