The Property Department of the Riga City Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and the Latvian Architects Association on 18 January 2023 announced the launch of the international architectural competition of RIGA PHILHARMONIC. Interested architects are invited to design the building of RIGA PHILHARMONIC within the historic center of Riga, in a scenic urban environment – in Kronvalda Park, rebuilding the Riga Congress Centre located at Krišjāņa Valdemāra iela 5, Riga.
The aim of the sketch design competition is to obtain the architecturally and functionally elaborate proposal for a sustainable building of RIGA PHILHARMONIC and the adjoining public open space which would be the most appropriate for the particular function and would blend harmoniously within the particular urban environment.
It is planned to hold the sketch design competition in two rounds, the entries for the 1st round need to be submitted by 10 May 2023.
As many as six entries will be selected in the 1st competition round and their authors will be invited to take part in the 2nd competition round. It is planned to pay 180,000 euro in rewards for participation in the 2nd competition round and the prize money in the 2nd competition round constitutes - 60,000 euro.
