Preserving Genius: How to Save Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings. REALLY Save Them.
Nonprofit Hosts Event that Provides Insight into Preservation Featuring Eric Lloyd Wright and Arthur Dyson
St. Louis, MO (July 15, 2021) – The Frank Lloyd Wright Revival Initiative is proud to present Preserving Genius: How to Save Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings. REALLY Save Them. The two-day, live-streamed event will feature discussions with legends and leaders in the architecture world, including Wright’s grandson Eric Lloyd Wright and renowned architect Arthur Dyson, who apprenticed in the Taliesin studio under the man whose name has become synonymous with modern architecture.
“We have spent decades studying, documenting, and now revitalizing the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. We’ve made connections with those closest to the man we recognize as a genius, and the artisans who are most steeped in what it takes to faithfully preserve iconic structures,” said Michael Miner, founder of the Frank Lloyd Wright Revival Initiative (FLWRI). “This program provides attendees with access they would otherwise never be able to have.”
Organizers have planned two days of exclusive access. Proceeds will support the mission of the FLWRI, which embraces a proactive, preemptive approach to preserving Wright-designed structures, up to and including buying those structures which may be endangered.
The two-part, online event will take place on August 7 & 8 from noon-2 pm PST. Tickets are $25 for students, $50 for AIA members and $75 for the general public and attendees will receive a download link so they can save the full program afterward.
August 7 Highlights
• A conversation with Eric Lloyd Wright about the significance of his grandfather’s work and the importance of preserving those buildings
• Restoration architect Jeff Baker gives unique perspectives on historic preservation

• Presentation by renowned masonry expert Ken Uracius
• Live virtual tour of the Ablin House in Bakersfield, CA with David Coffey

“The story of each Frank Lloyd Wright building is unique. We want to show attendees – who may be architects themselves, people in the preservation world, or simply fans – how to honor his work,” said Miner. “We want to give them the tools they need to be a part of saving these masterpieces for future generations.”

About the Participants
Eric Lloyd Wright is the grandson of Frank Lloyd Wright and an architect in his own name. He studied under his grandfather at the Taliesin studio (1948 to 1956), graduated from UCLA, and received his architecture license in 1967. He established his own firm, Eric Lloyd Wright Architecture and Planning, in 1978. He also leads a nonprofit called the Wright Organic Resource Center.
Arthur Dyson is an American architect who apprenticed with Frank Lloyd Wright during the last year of the famed architect’s life. Dyson then apprenticed with Bruce Goff, before going to work for William Gray Purcell. He eventually opened his own firm in California, where he focuses predominantly on residential work. He is a proponent of organic architecture and is considered one of the most successful and influential of the architects who trained under Frank Lloyd Wright.
Jeff Baker is a restoration architect whose work includes the restoration of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia; James Madison’s Montpelier, in Montpelier Station, Virginia; the Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island; the reconstruction of the 1660’s Brick Chapel at St. Mary’s City, Maryland; the restoration of the Vermont State House in Montpelier, Vermont; the restoration of the New York State Capitol in Albany, New York; as well as the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed campus at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Jeff has also been retained to assist in the restoration of George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia.
Ken Uracius is a masonry expert who has worked on the White House, the Alamo, and for the National Park Service. He was the lead mason on the renovation of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL. It is the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in the world, containing 12 signature structures that were completed in between 1941-1958.
About the Frank Lloyd Wright Revival Initiative
The Frank Lloyd Wright Revival Initiative, a non-profit organization, was originally formed to rebuild demolished or otherwise lost Frank Lloyd Wright projects on their original sites. After the loss of the Lockridge Clinic in 2018, the FLWRI expanded its mission to assist other Frank Lloyd Wright building owners with financial and professional resources. This was done in order that no other Frank Lloyd Wright building would ever meet the same fate as the Lockridge Clinic. Michael Miner, a documentary filmmaker specializing in films on Frank Lloyd Wright architecture, is the founder and CEO of the organization. For more information, visit FLWRevivalInitiative.org.
