Sports Center in Ulcinj / Slavko Lekic

In a recent competition back in September of this year, Slavko Lekic’s Sports Center in the municipality of Ulcinj, Albania takes advantage of its location with its unique position to the coastland. Lekic’s solution became an oasis in order to combine the spaciousness of the coastal beaches with the richness of the surrounding vegetation. More images and architect’s description after the break.

Returning to the very premises of observing similar features dominated by the sea, the reflection of the sky and distance are merged into one. The smell of the sea dominates the space, and is united with vegetation.The sea defines the form of the coast, creating an irregular border line with the beach. This line is in perpetual change depending on weather conditions, the wind that supports the dominance of the sea and calm weather, dominated by sandy beaches.

Water is the dominant factor in nature and among other things, water effects the formation of elements contained in it and those who are nearby. During the walk a Big beach, the stone can be seen to form different shapes, sizes, colors and textures on them. Common to them all is that during their formation, they had the biggest impact on the water. Their membranes are smooth and sculpted.

For further research for stronger arguments and evidence to do sports, the round, link, print, stone, comes to a stone or rock, so the form re-signs with the sea water, however, with certain modification, because this rock or stone indeed, despite its beauty, has a specific function.

It is a stone form, which is laced with holes, which are essentially regular circular shapes for a certain depth, like a cave micro world, which is a habitat for shellfish. This “discovery” is a turning point and the orientation towards the further development of the ideas, its implementation and adaptation in space.

The sports center includes gym facilities, an Olympic swimming pools, and outdoor pool, green spaces, open courts for tennis, basketball, handball, football, beach volleyball, bowling, logging paths, bike riding, walking, park space, sandy surfaces and an aqua park.
