2019 is a special year for the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, with three dates coinciding very closely: the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, the 50th anniversary of Mies van der Rohe´s death, and the 90th anniversary of the inauguration of the German Pavilion. This year is also the 16th edition of the Prize for Contemporary Architecture of the European Union - Mies van der Rohe Award. Each of these dates will be reflected in this year's program.
In the context of the celebration of the centenary of the Bauhaus, in February there will be an artistic installation that arrives from Chicago and invites to activate new views on the architecture of the avant-garde, as they will also later the film screen cycle Pavelló (from June to September), the activities of the Architecture Week (May) or the intervention of Michael Wesely from the image he recorded for 12 months with his camera installed in the Pavilion (September).
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the construction of the Pavilion in 1929, the reissue of the book "Mies van der Rohe, The Barcelona Pavilion" is presented, updated with new reflections of those who reconstructed it in 1986. And the legacy of Mies van der Rohe, 50 years after his death, it will be the subject of a symposium in the Pavilion (October).
Also, this year has the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2019, which for its recognition and international prestige, serves as a platform to raise awareness of the best architecture in Europe in diverse areas, registers and contexts.
