On Monday, 1 October 2018, people everywhere will celebrate World Architecture Day 2018. Countries all around the globe will highlight the importance of architecture through events, exhibits, lectures and other activities, for the profession and the public.
The International Union of Architects (UIA), the only global organisation representing the world's 3.2 million architects, is sponsoring this poster design competition to promote World Architecture Day. The winning design will become the unifying visual identity for programmes and activities throughout the world.
World Architecture Day 2018 marks the seventieth anniversary of the founding of the UIA, which was established in 1948 to unite architects everywhere. Poster designs must stress the theme "Architecture... for a better world!" using this exact phrase. The seventieth anniversary of the UIA may be mentioned, this is not required.
Our distinguished international Jury composed of globally renowned graphic designers Michael Bierut (USA), partner at Pentagram, Trix Barmettler (Switzerland) and Sulki and Min, www.sulki-min.com (Korea) will select the winner on the basis of clarity and power of messaging, ability to attract attention, overall artistic merit, and ease of use and reproduction.
The author(s) of the winning submission will receive a single prize of 1,000 EUR (one thousand Euros). This sum is to be divided equally among authors of the winning submission, if it is a team effort. The Winner will be announced on 2 July 2018.
