LEGACY: What will speak for you long after you are gone?
The Glasgow Institute of Architects, as Trustees for the Alexander Thomson Scholarship, are pleased to announce the launch of the Legacy Essay Writing Competition. The competition marks the bi-centenary of Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson’s birth and celebrates how the architect used critical writing as a tool to disseminate ideas.
Architecture has the unique opportunity to have an active dialogue through time. Reacting to what has come before, responding to the present and place-making to facilitate life in the future. As such, the discipline is intimately concerned with the idea of ‘legacy.’ We hope to instigate passionate reflections on the theme of legacy and its relevance to the discipline of architecture.
The competition is open to all UK-based architects and UK students of architecture under the age of 30. A travel scholarship of £1000 will be awarded to a single winning entrant.
