Schouwburg Amphion / Mecanoo Amphion Theatre, designed by Mecanoo, takes the place of the former and successful Amphion Theatre of the seventies which needed replacing. With its slightly reclined facades, the theatre is anchored firmly to the Doetinchem ground. The sand-coloured masonry is interrupted by a playful pattern of square windows which appear to be strewn on the facades (read more…)
Flockr Pavilion / SO-IL Get It Louder, an acclaimed biannual media and arts festival sponsored by Modern Media of China, features a series of lectures, screenings and exhibitions by over one hundred Chinese and foreign designers, artists, writers and filmmakers. Organized by an international team including Chinese curator and writer Ou Ning and design writer Aric Chen, this year’s theme “SHARISM” focuses on the relationship between public and private realms in the digital age (read more…)
Aquatic Centre for Southamerican Games / Paisajes Emergentes The new aquatic centre asked to meet the needs of future competitions as well as the availability as a new swimming teaching facility and public pools. The project is articulated by a system of garden through which the four pools are connected. A flooded landscape planted with species typical of tropical wetlands provides separation of private and public spaces (read more…)
Samitaur Tower / Eric Owen Moss Architects The project is an information tower, constructed at the corner of Hayden Avenue and National Boulevard immediately across from the new Expo light rail transit line arriving from downtown Los Angeles in June, 2011. Educational Centre in El Chaparral / Alejandro Muñoz Miranda The project essentially consists of walls and a ceiling with a variable section; these elements create a sequence of compressed and decompressed spaces. The changes in section are determined by use (corridor, classroom access and bathrooms, classroom, porch-outside covered corridor, garden, exterior covered playground) but also by the movement of the sun and the longitudinal slope of the plot (read more…)
