On Tuesday, January 26, Arhitext Design Foundation launched the second edition of East Centric Architecture Triennale, which will take place in Bucharest between September 15 and October 9, 2016. The theme of this year's edition is Drifting. The Triennale features three modules – Drifting Architecture (thematic projects exhibition), Critical Discourses (essay contest), and Arhitext East Centric Awards (projects contest) – and a special project named Agora Experiments (a workshop based on an international idea contest and multimedia exhibition).
Drifting Architecture will showcase the transformation process of contemporary architecture and, along with it, of architectural critique in the region, by means of a thematic exhibition and a critical discussion, that will bring together professionals from the region and from all over the world. The exhibition will highlight a selection of consistent architecture projects relevant both for the regional historical context, as well as for the social and cultural environment. The participants must submit their works following the schedule and rules of the open call launched on January 26. All submitted projects must have been completed in the period 2013–2016.
The second module of the Triennale, Critical Discourses, will be an essay competition. Students, critics of architecture and art, teachers, philosophers, theorists, sociologists, architects, urban planners, designers with a propensity for theory are invited to submit critical essays on the architecture of Central and Eastern Europe countries (one can choose one country, more countries or the entire region).
Five essays will be nominated and presented at the Triennale. The module will finish with a lecture by Alberto Pérez-Gómez, president of the jury and special guest, followed by a public debate with all the nominees.
East Centric Arhitext Awards will bring together projects of remarkable quality implemented in the past five years in East and Central Europe. They will be presented to the public by their authors, in several sessions of the jury. The competition will be complemented by two online exhibitions, East Centric Arhitext Award Exhibition and the special guest conference, held by architect Dietmar Feichtinger.
Agora Experiments will be dedicated to experimental architecture. It looks to facilitate interaction and communication between young and established architects. The project, a series of conferences and discussions with multimedia and digital interactive exhibitions, will be intertwined in-between the three modules of the Triennale: Drifting Architecture, East Centric Arhitext Awards, Critical Discourses.
