Explore the unique challenges faced by Brooklyn Grange, a group of urban farmers determined to run a commercially viable farm in New York City. The film Brooklyn Farmer follows the team as they set out to build the world’s largest rooftop farm within the constraints of the Big Apple.
This screening will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 4, at BSA Space and is the last film in the 2015–2016 BSA Space Film Series documenting some of the ways that architecture and design can engage communities, inspire vision, and provoke change. Complimentary refreshments and popcorn will be served. All proceeds from the series support the BSA Foundation.
The film follows head farmer Ben Flanner, CEO Gwen Schantz, communications director Anastasia Plakias, farm manager Michael Meier, and beekeeper Chase Emmons as their growing operation expands from Long Island City, Queens, to a second roof in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The team confronts the realities inherent in operating the world’s largest rooftop farm in one of the world’s biggest cities.
