As part of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris, Tomás Saraceno has revealed a sculptural installation, “Aerocene - Around the world to change the world," at the Grand Palais and Palais de Tokyo. The project features a series of air-filled sculptures that float without burning fossil fuels or using engines, solar panels or batteries.
Illustrating the power of the sun and infrared radiation from the surface of the Earth, Saraceno aims to have the sculptures float around the world in the longest, most sustainable journey. Helium, hydrogen and other rare gases from the ground will be responsible for the circulation of energy and resources. The prototypes of these Aerocene sculptures were presented for the first time at COP21 Paris, prior to their cross-international journey.
