361 Degree Conference '16

The ninth edition of the 361 degree conference intends to create a platform to allude that the ‘City’ is much more than an accumulation of buildings, construction, and architecture – they also comprise public spaces such as parks, squares, streets and alleys that are equally significant components of the urban fabric. The built and un-built environments are in a constant relationship with each other – sometimes conflictual, ideally harmonious and symbiotic – are integral to the form and function of our cities which we must constantly explore to institute and develop.

Since the year 2008, for the first time in human history, half of the world's population now lives in cities. If we are to design or build future cities which are genuinely sustainable, the three basic principles that justify an eco-friendly living are: architecture, urbanism and sustainability being closely interwoven and interdependent.

361 Degree Conference ’16 will attempt to highlight the urgent need to comprehend the role of the architecture of cities as both agents of change and catalysts of survival at a time when climate change has grabbed the attention of the world and become an imperative fragment of the basic framework for designing cities.

The conference will attempt to involve architects, developers and urban planners to create discourse to further dissect and re-evaluate the current ecological models for city planning in order to look at the micro and macro level issues of sustainable design for the future of our cities.

Technological and Material innovations become key factors for the development of the infrastructure by filtering through the economic and social aspects to decipher the need and acceptance of our societies. Creating divided roles for various professionals such as architects, planners, engineers, landscape designers, etc. by comprehending an overall broader perspective by encapsulating perspectives of all would be an important part of the process of building sustainable surroundings.

The conference aims to focus on highlighting the improvement of sustainability deliverables through design decisions, management processes, regulations, governance and community engagement. Issues concerning the conservation and restoration of open spaces, recreational areas, community facilities, institutions, etc. with the aid of local authorities to create an enhanced community living will be important matters of discourse to preserve and catalyse our existing social and cultural fabric.

Delegate Registration has commenced for the event with 450 limited seats for professionals, and 250 seats for students.
