Aedas has unveiled designs for a mixed-use development in Xuzhou, China. Planned for a scenic reserve area between Yunlong Mountain and Lake, “Huasha Plaza” hopes to minimize its footprint by acting as an extension to the surrounding landscape. Once complete in 2015, the project will be comprised of a hotel, residential, office and retail. Read on for more details.
“The key design concept is to extend the hill and valley topology to the center of development to create a harmonious setting with its surrounding beautiful landscape,” described Aedas. “This is achieved by layering the building masses and creating ‘green valleys’ within the development.
“There is a canal going through the middle of the site serving as a floodway. Project Design Director Yu-chieh Chiang worked closely with the client, landscape designers and engineers to turn this floodway into a highlight of the project with a water plaza in the middle of the development.
“The natural sloping site has a five-meter height difference from south to north, allowing a design for three-dimensional pedestrian and vehicle circulations and maximizing the value of different components. People can walk through the whole site on the second floor. Different programs on different levels have specific roads and circulations leading to each of them. This is the first three-dimensional cross circulation in Xuzhou.”
