Consistently ranked as among some of the best digital tools available for architects and designers, the team behind the Morpholio Project today release Board 2.0., the second version of their moodboard and layout app for iOS. The app has been made possible by a number of collaborations with high profile interior designers in order to develop a 'gallery' of "significant design objects", with contributions from the likes of Dyson, Herman Miller, and Knoll. For the past year Morpholio have "assembled research groups and canvased design leaders worldwide" in order to better understand the power and potential of the 'board'. The general consensus was that getting style, products, and sketching onto a single platform could "change the way designers access, build, and share ideas."
For Ciara Seymour, co-creator of the Morpholio project, "presentation or mood boards have always been an essential tool for creatives." Their new platform combines intuitive and accessible layout features with a library of over a thousand high quality design products. According to Seymour, "the Board app intervenes in the design process at the moment between research and creation, providing a tool that allows you to elevate and transform your endless stream of images into something far more powerful – your vision. This is a tool created with and for the interior design world that we absolutely hope will be co-opted by pinners, bloggers, design enthusiasts, and creatives of all types."
Alongside the 'curated gallery', the app has also made sharing simpler with access to the cloud built in. The designers describe the app as "an extension of existing design workflows" so that you don’t have to find a desktop to keep your process moving from inspiration to execution. For Richard Elder, Vice President of Brand Design at Herman Miller, "digital tools like Morpholio, Trace and Board make it more intuitive to connect, and most importantly to create and originate thinking, with a hand held device as the tool."
Board brings together "a constellation of innovative features, allowing users to work in a super fast, intuitive and organized way that frees up creative thinking." Some of the key features include:
- Gallery - a "runway of furniture, fixtures, accessories, materials, and more, that is curated by design experts, and links to official sites for reference."
- Tag it - the board will "compile an Item List of all objects clipped from the gallery or web and email it directly to your inbox. Go to your favorite paint site and clip a color swatch, or choose an accessory anywhere on the web."
- Conference Table - a layout option which "allows you to keep objects in the margins for fast access."
- The Portal - "an amplified web clipper that allows you to pull imagery from the web, directly from Pinterest, or from your own libraries."
- Entourage - a library of "people, symbols, backgrounds of any color, cork, or graph paper, and text options to add graphic polish to any layout."
- Illustrate - draw over any image, sketch, mark up, or write.
- Broadcast - share to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or mail.
According to Mark Collins, co-creator of the Morpholio Project, "interior design, like other forms of creativity, is going to be simultaneously broadened and deepened. The app is giving a new accessibility to design boards, bringing in a broader audience to participate. The integration we see between board, the web, and the products gallery also deepens the engagement and productivity at work in this kind of media."
