Mikou Design Studio has unveiled plans for the Africanews headquarters in Congo. Designed to “present a powerful visual impact” on Brazzaville’s skyline, the wood-clad tower will be hoisted on four “totem-like” pillars above a two-story glass base and topped with a panoramic restaurant sheltered by a vegetated rooftop terrace.
Describing the building as both “contextual and modern,” Mikou Studio stated that the 53-meter-tall tower’s “African materiality appears in the geometrical lozenge motif.” This is present in facade’s semi-transparent wooden sunshades, which are designed to protect the building for solar heat gain, and the tinted concrete in which forms the pillars.
Completion is planned for December of next year (2015). The headquarters will provide Africanews with all the essential programs, such as newsrooms, editing offices, screening rooms, a conference centre, meeting areas and the panoramic restaurant.
