- How do architects address the fact that each building they design, no matter how green, has an environmental impact? The only way is to create structures that give as much as they take. Regenerative design moves beyond net-zero to net-positive, in which a structure is a living, breathing laboratory that conserves more than it consumes, improving its surroundings rather than impacting them. Using a real-world example with two years of operational data, this session will explore the philosophies of regenerative design and how project teams can approach restorative goals from concept to product selection, implementation, and measurement.

- This session will outline the technologies and practices allowing for these structures and how the use of wood framing is impacting and enhancing design of tall buildings. Speakers will explore North American implications via the recently completed Timber Tower Research Project, in which an existing 42-story building in Chicago was redesigned and reevaluated with a wood structure that not only competes structurally and functionally, with concrete and steel, but also boasts a 60% to 75% smaller carbon footprint.
