Shortly after the jury demanded further work to be done on the shortlisted proposals, The London School of Economics (LSE) has selected Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) to design the new Global Centre for the Social Sciences. Besting proposals from OMA, Hopkins, Heneghan Peng and Grafton, RSHP’s winning design was also voted the public’s favorite by an overwhelming margin.
“The RSHP proposal goes beyond the School’s brief by giving us a new public square in the heart of the campus,” stated Director of Estates and Jury Panel Member Julian Robinson. “We are looking forward to developing the designs with the RSHP team and are confident that the result will produce a highly sustainable and outstanding piece of architecture.”
In order to construct the £90m, “world-class” Centre on LSE’s Aldwych campus, a number of existing structures will need to be demolished and redeveloped along Houghton Street and Clare Market. Aside for the image above, little details have been announced about RSHP's design. We will keep you updated as this information becomes available.
RSHP’s proposal was labeled as “Team E” throughout the anonymous competition.
