The Austrian Pavilion for the 2012 Venice Biennale is a collaboration of Wolfgang Tschapeller, Rens Veltman and Martin Perktold, a team that consists of interdisciplinary fields of study, thought and action from architecture and art. The contribution, entitled “Hands have no tears to flow. Reports from / without Architecture” invites visitors to comprehend architecture as a social and cultural phenomenon and to experience it from different perspectives and views. It explores this year’s theme, Common Ground, with a discourse on the sociopolitical function of architecture. The exhibit will be on view at the Biennale until November 25th.
The exhibit grounds itself in a liminal space between architecture, science and art. It combines scientific achievements, associated with the human body, with an architectural design of the future. These findings form of a report called “Report from / without Architecture”. The exhibit places Architecture as a motor and mirror of society with the human body as a the central figure.
The collaboration seeks to describe architecture as more than just building – evolved from the contribution of many individuals to create an installation that is art and architecture that engages people. This central theme of the exhibit invites a discourse about spaces, people, orientation, future, changes and the exploration of that which is not yet enclosed.
