The ideas of the project by Imago for the Jøssingfjorden competition is to link the landscape to the new building and the building to the entire scenario of Jøssingfjorden; it’s valleys and context, both visual, historical and technological. The architecture of the proposal will express the power and intentions that people have had for generations. It will make use of the most developed technologies and formal principles as they did according to their time. More images and architects’ description after the break.
The proposal connects the two mountains (2 domains of resources) of the valleys and will give the museum and the geopark a new strong character with a program that fulfills the requirements of function, management and maintenance. It is changing technologically and economically feasible. The proposal meets the requirements and terms as described in the competition documentation according to program and space /areas and possesses a certain capacity of exception. It will be part of the national attraction but it provides much broader application; and may be used for teaching and meetings at all levels.
Be outside, play, eat a packed lunch, take photos, continue into the woods, come up on the mountain, be inside the museum, hear a lecture, read, participate in a workshop, have a dinner or only drink a coffee – this is a museum with many possibilities. A restaurant for weddings, birthdays and local gatherings but also an attractive place for seminars, workshops, both private and public. An auditorium that can accommodate 120 or 150 people. A place to show to your friends, your relations, a place that puts Jøssingfjord on the adventure map.
“Allmenningen” is an old Norwegian word that expresses the availability without discrimination. The concept expresses a universal access or access for all, in our case an allmenning with themes, museum collections, research, international mediation, adventure and tourism.
The concept is a building in the shape of a bridge. The structural model consists of a tower which contains the vertical communication (stairs and elevators) and a suspended bridge composed by boxes that accommodate the diverse program and its features. The sides of the bridge will have window openings, but the openings will not weaken the structure’s strength to avoid side movements, fractures or twisting injuries. Controlled calculations on a pre-designed model of the building have been done to test the strength. The result gives a harnessed construction with 6 cables.
