Koidula Apartment Building / 3+1 Architects Building is located close to the Kadriorg park, one of the most important and historical green areas in Tallinn. Currently the socially and historically rich district is developing quickly into prestigious living area. 6 residential houses in Pahkli street / JVR Arhitektuuribüroo Maarjamäe dwelling district is an area of private houses locating only ten minutes drive from Tallinn city centre. After the II world war certain quarters were filled with barrack-type houses there (so-called “Finnish houses” as they were built by means of reparations claimed by Soviet Union from Finland after the war). Westerdok Apartments / MVRDV The building which has just been completed with a total surface of 6000 m2 contains 46 apartments and a day-care centre. Each apartment has a balcony of varying depths which stretch as bands along the entire facade, offering varied outside spaces and views over the western docklands of Amsterdam. The floor-to-ceiling glass façade can be fully opened and contrasts with the other buildings within the so called VOC Cour port redevelopment that are mainly made of brick (read more…)
Lant Street / Dow Jones Architects The project involved the conversion of the top two floors of a Victorian former clog-making factory into a home for a filmmaker. It makes somewhere in the city from which to withdraw from a busy working life, and a place of reflection which takes advantage of the wonderful city views around it (read more…)
Formosa 1140 / Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects Located in the heart of West Hollywood, this new eleven unit housing project emphasizes the central importance of shared open space for the residents and the community. Formosa takes what would be the internalized open space of the courtyard and moves it to the exterior of the building to create a park which occupies approximately one third (4,600 sf) of the project site (read more…)
