French architects a/LTA shared with us their latest project, ‘Swimming Pool Pays de la Roche aux Fées’ in Janzé, France. More images and architect’s description after the break.
A DELICATE AND GENEROUS ARCHITECTURE FOR A TERRITORIAL OPTIMIZED RADIANCE We wished a fine approach of the site and program leading to the subtle marriage of a contemporary architecture in permanent dialogue with its ambient landscape.
More than an intrusive, stereotypic architectural presentation, the aquatic equipment is a “landscape” plan which transcends the site of its establishment.
This plan is the narrative principle of nature in the city, a production of uses linked to aquatic practices.
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE EQUIPMENT The establishment of the equipment answers to three objectives: - optimize orientations for the different practices offered in the equipment: - optimize the adaptation to the natural ground and to its relief. - optimize conservation and proposal of green areas.
VOLUMETRIE AND VISUAL IMPACT
The swimming pool opens broadly, as stated before, southward on the new way. His horizontal volumes are wanted as a distortion of the ground and of her original topographer. The roofs are vegetalised with the same height of the surrounding, as an uprising of the ground.
Besides this work on the volumes, we tried to find a fair equilibrium between opacity and transparence, what must be seen, or what must be guessed.
In practice, wooden smart vertical fences protect the calmness of the swimmers and beaches for the comfort of each.
All around the equipment as a wooden cordon, they envelop a glass volume pure and transparent. In turn, these blades of protecting have a function of fence, of envelope of the technical zones and of cloakroom before dilating in filters supporting calmness and visual comfort of the swimmers.”
