Silvertree, designed by Studio RHE, is a landmark 24-storey ‘green’ apartment tower located in London’s Royal Docks. It has been granted planning approval and will commence construction in summer 2011. The mixed-use tower will house 161 high-quality 2-3 bedroom apartments, retail and office space and a cafe.

The tower uses photovoltaic panels on the facade which are embedded in the curved aluminum bands on two sides of the facade. The power will provide electricity as well as solar heating for the building. The solar PV panels are used in combinationg with ground source and biomass to generate heat and thermal insulation.
Large roof terraces and communal gardens provide a place for gathering and the opportunity to look out onto the docks. The site is also adjacent to recently built infrastructural roots that give it close ties to the city of London and connections beyond Heathrow. According to London Mayor, Silvertree will be one element of a cluster of new sustainable buildings in London’s Royal Docks.
