Rural and Future Public Programme

Rural and Future meets audiences in Istanbul and Ankara this autumn!

The four-year body of work produced through the architectural research and design studio 'Rural and Future: Voices from Beyond the City | Alternative Ways of Living and Architectures', conducted at Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture between 2020 and 2024 and focusing on eight distinct rural geographies across Türkiye, will be presented this autumn through an extensive public program spanning Istanbul and Ankara. The program brings together an exhibition, an international symposium, and a national forum.

Projects, drawings, mappings, moving images, and narratives developed through studies conducted in Şile, Bandırma, the Menderes Basin, the Harran Plain, the Çoruh Basin, the Taurus Mountains, the Upper Euphrates Basin, and the Lake Van Basin come together in the Rural and Future exhibition. While opening up rural geographies for consideration through their specific spatial, ecological, cultural, and temporal conditions, the exhibition also establishes a ground for a broader public discussion.
