Theme
As environmental crises like climate change and resource depletion accelerate, the demand for innovative material alternatives is growing. Biomaterials—derived from living organisms such as plants, fungi, and algae—offer eco-friendly solutions with novel aesthetics and localized adaptability. This symposium addresses the challenges of bridging the "valley of death" between academic research and industry application, fostering collaboration to bring innovations to market and accelerate adoption.

Key Highlights

Exhibition:
From January 22 to February 14, explore an inspiring display of biomaterial research and projects from leading academic institutions and industry leaders.

Workshops:
A hands-on opportunity to delve into biomaterial crafting techniques.

Organizers
The event is organized by a multidisciplinary team of experts from CCA's Architecture Division, including:

Dr. Negar Kalantar (Digital Craft Lab)
Margaret Ikeda (Architecture Ecologies Lab)
Alex Schofield (Graduate Architecture)
Evan Jones (Architecture Ecologies Lab)
Attendance

The symposium draws approximately 500 attendees annually, including academics, students, architects, engineers, and industry professionals. This year’s expanded programming and new campus facilities aim to enhance engagement and showcase pioneering innovations in biomaterials.
