The feature films, short films, and architecture documentaries will be showcased at the 6th edition of the festival, running from November 28 to December 7, marking the second decade of this event, which began as the first of its kind in Chile and Latin America.
Santiago, October 10, 2024. - After receiving an enthusiastic global response to the open call for submissions, the Arquitectura Film Festival Santiago 2024 has selected 47 films to compete in this year's festival. These films will be screened at various venues in Santiago from November 28 to December 7, during the 6th edition of the festival.
The films, representing 21 countries, invite audiences to explore the intersection of cinema, architecture, and emotions from different perspectives. They fall within three categories: Feature Film, Short Film, and Architecture Documentary.
This year's selection offers a broad spectrum of creative approaches and styles. From powerful documentaries delving into architectural heritage, to short films that capture the deep emotional bond between people and their homes, as well as stories that focus on everyday details, these works encourage viewers to rethink how the spaces we inhabit shape our lives and memories.
Selection of winners and screenings
An esteemed jury will be responsible for selecting the winning films. Jury members include film critic Ana Josefa Silva (Radio BíoBío, Ex-Ante, 2005 Apes Award); Alejandra Celedón, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Art, and Design at Diego Portales University (featured in the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale, 2018, with Stadium and the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biennale with The Plot); and filmmaker Patricio Muñoz, founder of dereojo communications, a production company dedicated to documentary and auteur cinema for over 25 years.
The Chilean Association of Architectural Offices (AOA) will also form a jury tasked with awarding the best architecture documentaries, films that creatively explore physical architectural works.
Additionally, the Inter-American Network of Film, City, and Architecture Festivals (RIFCA) will grant a special mention to the work that best captures the concept of emotional architecture.
Founded in 2012 as the first film and architecture festival in Chile and Latin America, the Arquitectura Film Festival Santiago (ArqFilmFest) now enters its second decade. With five previous editions (2012, 2013, 2015, 2018, and 2020), this year's festival continues to invite those interested in reflecting on architecture, urban life, and cinema to join in this audiovisual celebration.
The films selected for competition, as well as other screenings, talks, and events, will be held at Sala K in the El Claustro campus of Universidad Mayor, the Ceina Cultural Center, the National Film Archive of Chile, the AOA, and the FAU Auditorium.
