La Chambre - exhibition and education space for photography in Strasbourg, France - has launched de 7th edition of Archifoto - european awards of architecture photography.
The applications are open, each candidate is required to send 5 pictures and a small presentation text, answering the theme Architecture under construction.
The building site is one of architecture’s defining moments, it implies movement and experimentation. Whether it is on the scale of a building, or even on the scale of a city, it can be the embodiment of a social project, summoning up the collective, verging on disorder. This concept, full of meaning, evokes either a stage in construction, a place to store materials, a support for work or, in a more familiar way, the unfinished.
Based on the premise that architecture is itself a construction site, a constant process that implies an incessant renewal of practices, materials and people, this theme stimulates reflection: what will the architecture of tomorrow be ? What are the major projects, construction sites of today?
Since 2010, Archifoto has brought together documentary and artistic views on current architectural issues. By favouring a free and subjective viewpoint, it rewards photographers whose vision helps us to understand the urban and natural landscape, the ways of living and living together, and the new ways of building the world and society.
Prize money: 500€ for each of the 5 nominees + 2000€ for the winner
The nominees will be exhibited at La Chambre in autumn 2024, and the exhibition will then be hosted in several partner venues in the Upper Rhine region.
