The 2024 Ideas Competition: A Gateway for Mieres, is organized by the University of Oviedo, in collaboration with the City Council of Mieres. It's aimed at stimulating innovative solutions to improve the urban, aesthetic, and landscape conditions around the northern entrance to Mieres from the A-66 highway, focusing on enhancing pedestrian and cyclist conditions, as well as integrating this area into the urban fabric more effectively.
The competition is open, anonymous, and international, welcoming individual or team submissions from students worldwide in engineering, architecture, design, urban planning, geography, land management, or related fields.
Submissions must include a PDF panel with a design solution summary, an explanatory report, an executive summary, and a sealed folder containing authorship evidence and intellectual property rights documentation. The jury will evaluate entries based on revitalization, network improvement, distinctive imagery, sustainable strategies, quality space creation, and feasibility.
Prizes include cash awards for the top three entries and a special prize for the best team from the University of Oviedo, with all proposals subject to intellectual property rights agreements. The competition's timeline spans from the official launch in January 2024, through the consultation period ending May 1, 2024, to the submission deadline on May 12, 2024, concluding with the jury's decision on June 7, 2024.
This initiative highlights the importance of incorporating transport infrastructure into the urban landscape, promoting sustainability, and improving public spaces for pedestrians and cyclists.
