INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP FOR DESIGN PRACTITIONERS: Alastair Swayn Foundation-RMIT Architecture Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome. Applications NOW OPEN
The Alastair Swayn Foundation and RMIT Architecture, in collaboration with the American Academy in Rome, are excited to announce the opening of applications for the second Alastair Swayn Foundation-RMIT Architecture (ASF-RMIT) Affiliated Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome.
This prestigious fellowship, scheduled for the 2024-25 academic year, is an extraordinary opportunity for early and mid-career Australian architects, landscape architects, and design professionals to advance their practice on an international stage.
The ASF-RMIT Affiliated Fellowship will provide the selected candidate with an eight-week residential experience at the American Academy in Rome. During this period, the fellow will have the chance to immerse themselves in a rich interdisciplinary environment, working on research projects, cultivating their practice, and forming new connections. The fellowship also encourages participation in the Academy's various programs, such as lectures, concerts, walking tours, site visits, and other public events within the vibrant city of Rome.
Candidates are expected to be outstanding practitioners at a critical point in their careers, where the fellowship will significantly contribute to their future growth and development. Upon returning to Australia, the fellow will share their experience through a public lecture.
Simon Robinson, Director of the not-for-profit multidisciplinary design and research practice, OFFICE, was awarded the inaugural Alastair Swayn Foundation-RMIT Architecture Affiliated Fellowship in 2023 for his research project Learning from Corivale. This project supports the continuation of Robinson’s existing research here in Melbourne through OFFICE’s Retain, Repair, Reinvest project.
The judging panel for the 2024-25 ASF-RMIT Affiliated Fellowship includes Rodney Eggleston, Director of March Studio Architects; Amy Muir, Director of Muir Architecture; and Vivian Mitsogianni, Dean of the School of Architecture & Urban Design.
