The Ableist Cities Symposium will bring together academics and industry experts to hear narratives of individual lived experience and co-designed research around disability and accessibility in cities.
The symposium is hosted by the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, and the Melbourne Disability Institute at the University of Melbourne.
Sessions will explore housing design, the consideration of neurodiverse individuals in the design of public spaces, and the relationship between government policy and inclusive design practice.
Emphasising an integrated approach, the symposium seeks to marry the realms of politics, policy, and practical applications to address the pressing challenges faced in the built environment. In giving voice to these narratives, the convenors aim to ignite conversations that will shape our cities to make them more inclusive, equitable, and accessible for all.
