Monumental: Iconic Buildings and Sound Worlds

C. Bechstein announces “Monumental” film series

The heritage piano maker partners with distinguished contemporary composers for a series touring some of the world’s most iconic monuments

For over a century and a half, C. Bechstein pianos have accompanied music’s greats from Franz Liszt to Duke Ellington, Lou Reed to Ariana Grande. In opting for these pianos, what generations of composers have sought for is the famous “Bechstein sound”. In keeping with the original vision of its founder of continuously dialoguing with those who have made pianos their lifelong companions, C.Bechstein announces “Monumental”. The original video series, conceived and produced by the Bechstein team under the direction of C.Bechstein’s Creative Director Morgan Franke, showcases music by the brand’s artists, some of today’s most distinguished pianists, playing against the backdrop of some of the world’s most arresting architectural monuments.

In the first “Monumental” film to be launched on the 12th of October, the irreverent modern-classical French composer, Sofiane Pamart, dubbed the “Piano King”, brings his majestic personality and captivating sound to the grandiose Château de Chenonceau, a UNESCO World Heritage in France’s Loire region. It was in the very same castle that Debussy, who famously said that one should only compose piano music for the C. Bechstein, held his first concert to a coterie of France’s 19th century aristocracy. Connected in time through the luxurious setting of Chenonceau and the C. Bechstein grand both played, the two French composers speak to the enduring appeal of extravaganza.

After the first film, “Monumental” continues on a tour through the iconic buildings and sound worlds, offering one-of-a-kind glimpses of (usually crowded) landmarks occupied by nothing other than music.
