Who we are:

“Sankalan” has been instrumental in working closely with the building artisan community, ensuring that their work enables them a dignified living. To encourage building artisans to become Entrepreneurs, “Sankalan” is functional with a vision of empowering building artisans and strengthening artisanal practices to promote traditional skills and wisdom. For ensuring continuous work for the building artisans, “Sankalan” collaborates with architects / clients who intend to construct facilities using natural and environmentally sensitive materials and promote local artisans. Based on the building services required in a project, respective artisan groups are involved / linked directly to project through fair trade practice. Research is an important activity at “Sankalan” to understand and validate the traditional building techniques and transfer the know-how to the artisan guild for the mainstreaming the techniques. Sankalan collaborates with educational institutions, institutions to conduct research programs to jointly find appropriate solutions for human settlements. “Sankalan” also offers introductory training programs for architecture, engineering college students, professionals and collaborates globally with educational institutions to conduct research programs As an environment sensitive group, decentralized wastewater treatment solutions are designed for institutions, housing settlements with an objective of solving problem of liquid waste generated in society.
