Solid Heart Oak in Tisvilde Holiday Home | Dinesen

Solid Heart Oak wood from Dinesen was used in a coastal home in Denmark. Situated in Tisvilde on the North coast of the Danish island of Zealand, the home is surrounded by dunes, cliffs, and wild nature.

Design Concept

Designed by Henning Larsen, the home follows the same Scandinavian architectural tradition of the studio. Building in the area that is part of the Danish 'Nature Canon' calls for a respectful approach. The holiday home is designed using materials that reflect nature and maximize the sea view and dramatic landscape.

Exterior

The exterior is made of cedar wood which will gradually turn silver and blend into the natural setting. The green sedum roof with mosses and succulents is beneficial to the climate and environment. In addition to its moisture-absorbing and temperature-regulating effects, the roof contributes to biodiversity by offering a habitat for bees and other insects. This is carried out into the landscape design of the garden which is rich in biodiversity.

Interior

The house is designed to let both direct and indirect daylight through horizontal and vertical apertures. The clients’ dream of sea views was fulfilled with a carefully considered floor plan and large window sections that offer views of the waves from almost every room. An essential aspect of the interior is the use of natural materials in every room: soft cream-colored curtains, dark, Italian natural stones with marbling, wooden floors, and bespoke design solutions in wood.

Heart Oak Wood

Solid Heart Oak wooden floors from Dinesen were used throughout the house. The natural look of the wood shows knots formed in the tree and uses butterfly joints to close the naturally formed cracks.
