Sancal is a spanish brand born in early 70´s. Santiago Castaño, founder of the company, decided to set up a shop on his own manufacturing classic Marie Antoinette style chairs. Sick of tufts, gold thread and deep buttoning while inspired from his trips to Milan, Santiago made a radical change. The 90s where a key to the development of the company: Sancal started to collaborate with industrial designers and interior architects. Designs by Miguel Milá or Gemma Bernal shared the pages of the company’s catalogue with more commercial designs by Santiago. The new century saw the artistic direction of the company being handed onto Santiago’s talented daughters Esther and Elena. Their design is more hedonistic and extroverted - here communication becomes part of a product’s function.
Sancal has collaborated with many national and international designers, new talents or dedicated artists, like Yonoh Studio, Mut Design or Toyo Ito, Karim Rashid and Note Design Studio amongst others.
