United Contemporary is proud to present Turning of Day, a contemplative solo exhibition by Toronto-based painter Stefan Berg. In this new suite of plein air paintings and studio interpretations, Berg draws out and emphasises a compelling geometry found in nature. Grasping the weight and mass of the subject, both in feeling and substance, the artist makes real the physicality of experience, to procure a tangible, haptic touch for the eyes. However, the true subject of this exhibition is light. Returning to familiar landscapes with cumulative inquiry, Berg has painted on-site and from memory, the evanescence of time, exploring temporality and duration. As a result, his paintings are evocative of the mechanics of seeing, layering and revising the passing light and atmosphere observed over days, sometimes months, even years.

Daylight shapes the experience of a space like no other material and is a fundamental aspect for designing healthy and sustainable buildings. Good daylighting design can improve the health, mood, cognitive abilities and productivity of the occupants at home, school or work while reducing the energy consumption of buildings.
Daylight Visualizer makes it easy to take informed decisions about architectural and daylighting strategies in your projects, and to evaluate compliance with requirements for daylight performance in building regulations and building rating systems.

Candidates participating in this competition are asked to design a floating pavilion on the Drava River, which would serve as a small stage and a place for contemplation by the river. The pavilion is primarily intended to serve as a venue for smaller events and shows (small bands, discussions with notable guests, wine tasting, etc.), but also as a relaxation site, offering views of the river and the historic city centre. The small stage will particularly serve its purpose during the Lent Festival in June as an additional performance stage. It is necessary that the floating construction can be moved easily to another location by the river (if required) and be adapted quickly to different programs. The pavilion should highlight the existing qualities of the area, ensure a better connection between the elevated Lent riverbank and the river and, consequently, invite people closer to the river.

The goal of the competition is the redevelopment of the market area in via Buontalenti and piazza Cavallotti, through the regeneration of a central urban space for the city, which gives an input to the renewal of the historic center of Livorno. The result will have to be an increase in both the commercial and social vocation, accentuating the urban quality, welding it to the recovery and implementation of market functions and aggregative functions, with a proposal that takes into account a vision of both the specific and general urban context.
