The Uyuni Salt Flat Shelter competition seeks to foster a reconnection with nature and with the human experience within solitude. Acceleration, instantaneity, immediacy, technologization... Daily human life has been subsumed by synchronous devices such as the clock and the mobile phone, resulting in a stressed society that has lost all trace of its biological temporality and its shared life with the environment. Here, on the salt flat, all technology disappears. Total computerization is not possible.

Natural disasters, flooding, unbalanced environmental exploitation, urban occupation of high-risk areas, exclusionary urban planning, the degradation of historical and cultural heritage, precarious housing, restrictive urban mobility, and government neglect are some of the many adversities that define the context of contemporary cities. The city emerges as a grave consequence of these disastrous events, which occur either through continuous processes or isolated episodes.

The Rio de Janeiro Department of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB-RJ) has opened registration for the 58th Annual Awards—Road to the Centenary and the 37th Architect of Tomorrow Award. The former aims to recognize the intellectual and professional production of the Department's members, while the Architect of Tomorrow is dedicated to honoring academic work produced in architecture and urbanism programs across the state of Rio de Janeiro. The winning final graduation projects in the eight categories of the Architect of Tomorrow award will also compete for the Grandjean de Montigny Award, sponsored by CAU/RJ.

UPDATE: The 13th International Architecture Biennial of São Paulo has extended the deadline for the Co-Curatorship Competition proposals until January 31, 2021, at 11:59 PM. Proposals may be submitted via the Biennial website. This edition features a 12-member committee, including representatives from the IAB (Institute of Architects of Brazil) from other states to ensure plurality in overseeing this event of national and international reach.

This is an open call for projects and publications completed during the four years preceding each edition of the BAQ. Over its twenty-one editions, the Biennial Competition has received more than 7,000 entries and has recognized contributions to the practice of architecture, urbanism, landscape, theory, and architectural dissemination.

Rio de Janeiro is inviting everyone to be part of the 2020 official calendar, as the city serves as the first UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture and host of the 27th World Congress of Architects. The City Hall has published a public call (number 02/2019) in the Official Municipal Gazette, opening the floor for institutions and cultural producers from Brazil and abroad to submit proposals for events related to architecture, cultural heritage, landscaping, urban management, or discussions on the cities of the future.

Simone Cadinelli Arte Contemporânea opens the exhibition "How to inhabit the present? Act 1 – Everything is coded fog" on July 20, 2020, featuring video works by 14 artists from across Brazil, installed in the gallery's window on Rua Aníbal Mendonça, in Ipanema. The videos will run 24 hours a day and can be viewed by passersby. These are some of the questions posed by the "Isolated Dialogues" series, organized by the Finis Terrae University School of Architecture, which will bring together various local and international artists, architects, designers, musicians, scientists, and journalists in each session to discuss these topics.

Submit your project featuring prominent use of ceramic tiles. Winners will have their work featured as the cover story in the November 2020 issue of TILE Brasil. This issue will also be distributed at Cersaie 2020 in Italy.

Registration is now open for the National Public Architectural Design Competition for Social Housing, organized by CAU/GO in partnership with AGEHAB (Goiás Housing Agency). Proposals will be accepted until 4:00 PM on February 19, 2020, at the CAU/GO headquarters.

In Conflict is the Portuguese Representation at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, taking place in 2021. The Portuguese Representation is commissioned by the Directorate-General for the Arts, with a curatorial team led by the collective depA architects, who are also responsible for the exhibition design.

Isolation viewed through a multidisciplinary lens is the central theme of "Isolated Dialogues," a series of conversations organized by the School of Architecture at Universidad Finis Terrae, which has already featured artists, architects, designers, musicians, scientists, and writers from both national and international backgrounds.

The current pandemic has prompted academic reflection across various disciplines, highlighting the need to create spaces for dialogue, debate, and contribution. This allows the current generation to address the new challenges posed by this global crisis and to adapt attitudes and behaviors across different fields and areas of work, ultimately aiming to shape better environments that foster resilient communities.

The School of Architecture at Universidad Finis Terrae will host the symposium "Between Van Eycks and Smithsons: Theoretical Convergences, Practical Divergences. Thresholds, Steps, Transitions," which seeks to delve into the specific conditions of the architectural works of Aldo and Hannie van Eyck and Peter and Alison Smithson, and to debate their conceptual issues.
